GPS; internet independent?

ventolinmono
Hi.

Does the A-GPS on the Free Runner only works with an internet connection? or Can i use the GPS with the standard GPS signal when there is not a network conection available?
In other words: Does the Free Runner works as an average GPS receiver without any internet connection?

Sorry if its too n00b just want to be sure before i buy it. =)

But if you want to have it displaying maps, you must download maps while
connected. You dont get maps for the whole of Europe by default on the
FR, but I've read it's possible to download maps in advance.

So I guess it depends on how you plan to use the GPS.

not true.  you can use navit which uses vector maps from OpenStreetMap (OSM).
for navit you can download full europe map with ~500+ Mbytes, fully scalable...
