how to build android for OM from source ?

Harald Koenig
Hallo OM!

I'm looking for some pointers how to start buildung android from scratch^Wsource.

I found the 1st pointer to http://trac.koolu.org/ on

  http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Android_on_Freerunner

but trac.koolu.org is dead (only right now?).
old mails on this list point to trac.koolu.org too :-(

where's the right place to look for more information about android for OM ?

right now I have GTA02 (hopefully GTA04 soon;), so first I'd like to "just"
rebuild the current android 2.2.1 for GTA02.
next, likely I'd like to build 2.3.* for GTA02, then either for GTA04 or start trying android 4.0.3 or similar....

at least I do have the android repos and can build and run 4.0.3 in the emulator,
so my tool chain seems to work a bit (BTW: a full 4.0.3 from repo takes only 18 minutes, using the "right" PC;-)))

thanks for any pointers/help/...

Harald

Do you maybe know if this is a version of Android with closed source API
libraries replaced with open ones?

HI,

I just took a short look and it looks like that there are no closed
bits in their setup.
Looks like plain AOSP with open source code for hardware support of
the freerunner.
But as I am not working on that project this just what I can tell from
1000 feet overview and seeking over their source on gitorious[1]

So in principal it looks like they took code from here [2], and forked
new repo?
Additionally, this page states that "Android is an open-source software
stack for mobile devices,[...]", so this would be answer for my previous
question.

not all the code they just forked the stuff they needed to change for
adding support for the hardware. All the other code is the same like
on the android page, wich wasn't forked it is loaded from the google
servers. I would name this a android fork it is just extensions to
supports the hardware, since android has build in layers for hardware
support abstraction the changes aren't that much.

Guys,

If you want to get some details on the AoF project, just go to our project website

http://code.google.com/p/android-on-freerunner/

and/or subscribe the mailinglist

http://groups.google.com/group/android-on-freerunner

You're right it is more a fork of Google Android with changes to get the FR hardware working.

There are instructions on the Wiki to get the sources, setup your environment and compile from scratch.
